Welcome to the online database for the Ancient Egyptian collections at the Oriental Museum.

Users are asked to bear in mind that this is a working database and not a complete catalogue. Thus not all the entries are complete and some may contain errors. Only those objects which have been photographed are currently included in the online database. We will continue to build on this with the aim of getting the entire collection online.

Users are asked to note that the wording contained in the database may have come directly from historic documents and thus some of the terminology may now appear outdated and even offensive. The historical value of seeing how objects were perceived at the time they became part of the Museum's collections (or even before) is an important part of their history, which is why such information is preserved in the records. In addition, users should be aware that the database includes records for human remains and erotic material.

The Museum is always pleased to receive further information about the objects in its collections and corrections to the database entries. These can be sent to oriental.museum@durham.ac.uk.
